Get More Out of Your Garden
Because we’re honored to be
referred to as the “perfect garden tomato,” we figured it would only
be fair to share with our gardening brethren (and sistern?) some of
the secrets that can be learned from the
greenhouse.
1)
Consistency is everything. Light, water and nutrients are all easily
recognized, and most gardeners are used to impacting at least 2 of
the above. In the greenhouse we are also monitoring other factors
like humidity, and employ our own “pollination generation
machines” (bees.)
2)
They’re a lot more tomatoes
in your plants. Because of
the design of the greenhouse and the consistent “weather” inside, we
are able to get 45 lbs of tomatoes out of each plant. One way,
is to get the plant to continue to grow. Our plants are 30 feet
long before we stop them for the year. Yes, we have to stop the
growth although, it has slowed by that
time.
3)
Careful pruning makes the plant more
efficient. The old growth
and those “suckers” steal valuable nutrients from the growing fruit
and need to be eliminated.
Nothing happens in the
greenhouse that doesn’t happen in your own back yard. We just
have the benefit of consistency and someone working on the plants
every single day during the year-long
season.
